About the Role
Laytons is seeking a Partner (Solicitor) to join its busy and award-winning Private Client team. The Private Client team handle a wide range of matters including estate planning, trust and estate administration including cross border estates, contentious probate, charity set up and registration and court of protection work. Acting for a diverse client base, clients include families, individuals, charities as well as high net worth individuals. The successful candidate must have a client following.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle a broad range of Private Client matters, providing sound legal expertise, advice and guidance to clients.
- Manage a varied caseload including estate planning, probate, trusts and estate administration.
- Advise on inheritance tax planning and capital gains tax matters.
- Manage own client portfolio and proactively undertaking business development and marketing activities to generate new business and enhance the Firm’s profile, both internally and externally.
- Draft Wills, trust deeds and other legal documentation to a high standard.
- Liaise with personal representatives and other professionals on estate matters as required.
- Assist the Department Head in the development and growth of the Private Client practice.
- Meeting own financial/billing targets and assisting the department as a whole in meeting its fee earning targets, demonstrating strong financial acumen.
- Mentor and develop junior team members, supervise staff members and other managerial duties.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, demonstrating a proven track record of business development and identify opportunities to refer work to other departments.
- Keep up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and case law in England and Wales.
- Ensure that all matters adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, including anti-money laundering (AML) and compliance procedures.
- Demonstrate consistent willingness to become involved in activities of the firm, including marketing, outside of normal working hours.
- Promote good file management.
- Understand the importance of time recording and financial control with particular regard to cash-flow control through collection of monies on account and billing procedures.
- You may also be required to undertake other or additional duties as the firm may reasonably require from time to time.
Skills and Experience Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with strong Private Client experience at a level of complexity commensurate with your experience.
- Previous experience at Partner level or equivalent.
- STEP qualified and Full Member (TEP).
- Strong technical ability and drafting skills.
- Experience of managing a team and developing junior team members.
- Advocacy skills are desirable.
- Experience of contentious work and working with charities is desirable.
- Able to build and manage client portfolios, with potential to generate ongoing or repeat work.
- Good team player with a collegiate and collaborative approach.
- Able to plan workloads and resources effectively, work to deadlines and prioritise tasks.
- Excellent client care and client support skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good IT skills with ability to use case management systems.
